Established in 1981, Shanxi Provincial Guoxin Energy Development Group (山西省國新能源發(fā)展集團有限公司), based in Taiyuan, has developed into a large modern State-owned energy company with business covering gas, traditional Chinese medicine and trade.

By the end of 2016, the company had total assets of 38.8 billion yuan ($5.66 billion), 17,419 employees and 48 subsidiaries including one listed.

With five gas subsidiaries, gas is the company's core business. To help to develop the gas sector in Shanxi province, the company has built gas-related infrastructure such as 6,300 kilometers of pipelines and 210 liquefied natural gas or compressed natural gas fueling stations, with the resulting gas supply covering 6 million households in 104 counties, 550 industrial users, 10,252 commercial users and 120,000 vehicles.
