Shanxi province's innovative "Smart Guardian + On-Site Patrol" cultural heritage safety supervision model and "Top 10 Museums Douyin Live Broadcast: National Treasures Proving Shanxi's Civilization" series have both earned national "Top 10" honors.

The honors are respectively the 2024 Cultural Relics High-Quality Development Promotion Cases and the 2025 Top New Media Communication Projects for Chinese Cultural Heritage, announced by the National Cultural Heritage Administration on June 14.

Shanxi boasts 53,875 immovable cultural relics, including 531 national-level protected sites, the highest in the country. However, many relics are in remote areas with limited professional oversight. To address this, Shanxi has implemented 24/7 visual monitoring for 1,211 heritage sites using IoT and AI recognition technologies. Fourteen safety inspection teams have been established, covering 11 cities and the Great Wall area. This "Smart Guardian + On-Site Patrol" model has reduced cultural heritage safety hazards by 78 percent, pioneering a new large-scale monitoring paradigm for cultural heritage protection.

The "Top 10 Museums Douyin Live Broadcast: National Treasures Proving Shanxi's Civilization" series utilized the Douyin platform to connect ten major museums across the province. Through short videos, the series showcased the charm of Shanxi's cultural relics and promoted the integration of traditional culture and new media.

Shanxi's submissions, including the "Dr. Heritage" podcast, the documentary Red Witness: Collecting and Organizing Revolutionary Cultural Relics Stories, and the online digital exhibition "Secular Life in Shanxi's Tomb Murals from Song (420-479) and Jin (1115-1234) Dynasties", were among the shortlisted projects.

A total of 340 project submissions from 291 units nationwide were received, covering various fields such as cultural relic protection, archaeological research, and digital exhibitions.
