Updated: 2025-06-19
In recent years, Shanxi province has established 26 provincial-level cultural heritage research bases, focusing on urgent need to cultivate innovative platforms and teams for grotto temples, archaeology, ancient architecture, and museums.
The Shanxi Culture Relics Bureau has provided prioritized support in the field of technological innovation, allowing researchers at cultural institutions and museums to benefit from national and provincial preferential policies on scientific and technological innovation. This has significantly boosted the motivation and creativity of cultural and historical researchers.
The bureau has organized and implemented six national-level research projects, four provincial key research and development plans, and over 140 provincial-level research topics. Notable technological advancements include the development of underground archaeological cabins and fiber-optic IoT monitoring systems for ancient wooden buildings, resulting in significant research outcomes.
The bureau has also promoted the integration of digital technology in cultural protection and utilization. Efforts have been made to create digital archives for Shanxi's world heritage sites, key cultural relic protection units, museum collections, and endangered cultural relics. To date, a total of 3PB of data has been collected, and a preliminary digital resource library for key cultural relics in Shanxi has been established.
Moving forward, the bureau will continue to deepen the integration of government, industry, academia, research, and application and develop a comprehensive cultural technological innovation system to support the high-quality development of Shanxi's cultural sector through advanced technological innovation.
