On June 17, Fan Qinghua, executive vice president of the Shanxi Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, expressed his hope at the farewell banquet that the young Idahoans would share their experiences in Shanxi with others back home. He encouraged them to become ambassadors of Sino-American friendship.

Shanxi and Idaho established a friendly province-state relationship in 1985. This visit was part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of their partnership and a segment of the "2025 Trip of Friendship to China - Sino-US Youth Exchange Program".
