Shanxi unveils first low-carbon themed tour route
Updated: 2025-06-26
Shanxi province launched its inaugural low-carbon themed tour route, "Tracing Climate Imprints: The Shanxi Journey of Time and Temperature", on June 20, inviting all sectors of society to safeguard historical heritage and ecological environments.
This tour route aims to promote the integration of cultural heritage conservation and low-carbon development. It explores new forms of climate change education, enhances public understanding of the relationship between climate change and cultural heritage conservation, and encourages active participation in low-carbon practices and the protection of cultural heritage.
Connecting 12 representative cultural heritage sites in the province, the route spans from the Yungang Grottoes in the north to Yongle Palace in the south. It includes landmarks such as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Wutai Mountain, Foguang Temple, and the Jinci Temple. Through a "cultural heritage + low-carbon protection" model, it establishes an innovative climate change path for cultural heritage conservation and sustainable development.
Employing the "Shanxi Green Life" mini-program, the tour route creates a closed-loop mechanism of "Cultural Tourism Experience - Low-Carbon Action - Rights Exchange", allowing the public to accumulate carbon credits through location check-ins and exchange them for themed cultural and creative products.
Along with the launch of the route, the Shanxi Museum also held public lectures on climate change and a small thematic exhibition titled "Cultural Heritage in Climate Change", promoting the public's scientific understanding of climate change.
