Shanxi works to provide better healthcare services in countryside
Updated: 2025-09-16
In recent years, Shanxi province in North China has been actively working to enhance rural healthcare services through its rural health initiative.
With the goal of providing higher-quality healthcare services to rural residents, the province has focused on implementing targeted policies and addressing service gaps to reduce health disparities between urban and rural areas as a crucial part of its efforts to support rural revitalization.
Thanks to the initiative, Zuojiawan village in Yuanqu county, Yuncheng has made significant improvements: wide roads lined with trees, a clean and comfortable village clinic, and well-equipped health squares and walking paths. Villagers have even organized fitness groups, engaging in activities like square dancing and tai chi.
Zhao Jianjun, the village head, said that with the clinic's upgrades and the establishment of a medical alliance, villagers now have easy access to quality medical services right at their doorstep. By enhancing infrastructure, optimizing healthcare services, and fostering a health-conscious culture, the village has significantly improved residents' health and quality of life, Zhao said.
Zhao's village is benefiting from the province's rural health initiative, which aligns with the Healthy China Initiative, focusing on spreading health awareness, encouraging active participation, providing healthcare services, and extending life expectancy.
According to Niu Baozhu, an official from the province's health commission, the immediate goal is for 14 pilot counties and Datong city to lead the development of high-quality rural healthcare services by the end of 2025, including improving the environment, elevating public health services, and developing health industries tailored to local needs.
